GDP recovery since the Bush/GOP Recession.
Historically, the GOP is pretty terrible with unemployment. Reagan took an improving unemployment rate and drove unemployment through the roof. It only came back down to pre-election level by the time he got re-elected. Obama, on the other hand, inherited a rate that was skyrocketing.
Lest we forget where the GOP took the economy the last time they had it (versus where Obama has taken us since), please keep this graph in mind.
The red line is the effective tax rate; the blue line, unemployment.
Oops, “job creators.”
The Colbert Report
Even many Republican voters favor an increase in tax revenue. So who are the GOP candidates listening to?
Private Employment Still Recovering from the Last GOP Recession (i.e. The Great Recession). Bush and the GOP Cons left office with a crisis in full swing. Now they want the keys to the car back so they can finish driving us off the cliff.
Obama has added jobs in the private sector, but he’s lost a ton in the public sector. Now there’s irony! The Cons attack him as a “Big Government” liberal and yet government was MUCH bigger under Bush than Obama. Cons are either ignorant of this or they know that they are speaking untruths.
